The teenager has enjoyed a breakthrough season at St James Park, occasionally linking up with older brother Sean in the Magpies’ midfield.
The 19-year-old has scored in both of his side’s two meetings with Manchester United this term – including on his Premier League debut – as well as the FA Cup win over Rochdale.
Manager Steve Bruce recently said of contract talks: “I’m sure there are people in his ear, so of course the situation is a concern.
“But he knows what I think of him and I keep reminding him how many other 19-year-olds have played in the Premier League this year.
“I speak to him regularly and will continue to do so. He knows how much the club wants him to stay.”
