You get the sense a painful divorce is on its way. At 35, his days in the Premier League are evidently numbered.

However, after a string of faultless performances this season you have to ask yourself is the former Wigan man deserving of a new deal?
The answer? Probably, yes. 

But the Toffees need to be thinking long-term, thus it looks likely Baines’ 13-year career at Goodison Park – and a very good one at that – will come to an end this summer.
